The 6th Annual Candlelight Ceremony at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home/Iwo Jima Memorial on Saturday August 16th.In Remembrance of All deceased Veterans. The Iwo Jima Memorial Historical Foundation, Inc. and Newington Memorial Funeral Home will be holding the 6th Annual VJ Day Candlelight Ceremony of Remembrance on Saturday, August 16th. The public is invited to attend this FREE event and participate in this solemn ceremony by remembering a deceased loved one who served at any time in the US Armed Forces.
The ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. at Newington Memorial followed by a formal escorted procession to the National Iwo Jima Memorial where the lighting of candles will take place. Those interested in attending are asked to first go the Newington Memorial and take the shuttle bus to the memorial following the ceremony. Parking at the memorial is limited to elderly, handicap, presenters and motorcycles. In case of rain, the entire event will take place at the funeral home.

The 7th annual 5k Hoof It For Haiti Run & Walk-a-thon will be Saturday September 20th at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Rocky Hill. Last years runners and walkers came out in record numbers, totaling more than 300 from all over the state. Last year people even came from Brooklyn New York! The morning started with the first-ever Kids Run for ages 12 and under which was before the 5K started.
The Church holds this annual event to raise money for food, maintenance and upkeep to Saint Anne church a parish of about 3000 people, located on the coast just north of Port-au-Prince in Haiti. It is a 5K, USATF sanctioned race which starts on Brook Street and ends in the Church parking lot.
